Our Story
MOM’s was founded by Scott Nash in 1987 in his mom’s garage with an initial investment of $100. Since then, MOM’s has grown to become one of the nation’s premier chains of organic grocery stores, operating in DC, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New York, and Massachusetts.
our purpose: to protect and restore the environment
Since the beginning, we have maintained our commitment to selling only certified organic produce.
- In 2005, MOM’s stopped using plastic bags.
- In 2010, we removed unnecessary plastic waste in our stores. The first (and most important) step was to ban bottled still water.
- MOM’s offers recycling for customers and employees including denim, corks, and cell phones.
- MOM’s provides free car charging for customers and employees (at almost every location).
- We use both solar (from the MOM’s Solar Farm!) and wind power to offset our stores’ energy usage.
Ingredient Standards:
We stock a higher volume of organic products than any other store, including organic produce. If organic options are not available, we have progressive standards that include a list of 250+ banned ingredients! In addition, MOM’s does not allow products to target children with licensed cartoon characters on the package.
Working at MOM’s:
One of MOM’s core values is We Rise by Lifting Others. Our CEO/Founder, Scott Nash, believes that “without a doubt, our most valuable asset here at MOM’s is our people.” We also offer other cool benefits such as:
- A casual work environment with opportunities for mindfulness training and meditation
- Paid maternity leave
- Subsidies towards the purchase of a hybrid or electric car
- Hands-on training, including book sessions, field trips, and more!
